September 26th celebrates Human Resources Professional Day, and at gWorks, we want to take a moment to pause and thank the people behind our employees; the ones who make sure our employees are supported, our culture is strong, and our teams are set up to thrive.
This year, we’re spotlighting two of our incredible HR professionals:
Joy Banfield, Vice President of People & Culture, and Jennifer Boyd, Payroll and HR Specialist.
They bring different strengths and perspectives to the table, but they share a common purpose: making gWorks a place where people, and communities, can grow forward together.
💬 Why They Chose HR
For both Joy and Jenn, the path to HR started with a deep desire to support others.
“I actually started my career in recruiting,” said Joy. “From the beginning, I knew I wanted to get into HR, so I used recruiting as my entry point… I said yes to every project that crossed over into HR. That gave me a foot in the door.”
Jenn’s path was fueled by connection. “I was inspired by the opportunity to support employees and build meaningful relationships,” she shared. “I enjoy being a resource for people and helping them.”
That thread — of helping others succeed — has carried through both of their careers and defines their work today.
🧭 What It’s Like Working in HR at gWorks
Ask any HR pro and they’ll tell you: no two days are alike. At gWorks, that’s especially true.
“HR here isn’t siloed,” said Joy. “It touches every part of the business, from product launches to acquisitions to client success. What makes it different is the visibility. You see the impact of your work almost immediately.”
Jenn agreed, noting the balance of challenge and connection. “Working in HR at gWorks is both challenging and rewarding,” she said. “Supporting remote employees is one of the biggest differences compared to my past roles. It brings unique compliance requirements, and new ways to connect.”
🙌 Moments That Matter
When asked what made them proud this year, both leaders emphasized teamwork and impact.
Joy pointed to the creation of the gWorks Culture Code, a company-wide reset on who we are and what we stand for. “We replaced our old core values with something that truly aligned with our leadership team and resonated with employees,” she said. “The first value is ‘Win Together,’ which means none of us are winning unless our clients are.”
For Jenn, the highlight was becoming part of a collaborative team. “It’s hard to pick just one moment,” she said. “But being part of a team that shares the same goals and prioritizes open communication, that’s been one of the highlights of the year.”
🔍 More Than “Just HR”
There’s a common theme in both of their responses: HR at gWorks is about far more than policies or paperwork.
“Most people don’t realize how connected HR is to the rest of the business,” said Joy. “It’s about making sure our talent strategy keeps up with business demands. That means I’m often in conversations about products, clients, and operations, because people are at the center of all of it.”
Jenn added, “Payroll isn’t as simple as just ‘running payroll,’ and benefits administration is rarely straightforward. There are many moving parts, and each situation requires careful attention and problem-solving.”
💡 Living the Culture Code
At gWorks, culture isn’t something printed on the wall, each of us live it. And our HR team helps make that happen.
“We’ve built our performance reviews and talent processes around the Culture Code,” Joy explained. “Employees see how their contributions tie back to values like dependability, customer centricity, and simplicity.”
Jenn echoed that spirit: “We collaborate constantly to make sure employees feel valued and engaged, which reflects the heart of the Culture Code.”
🧠 Lessons in Leadership
Working in HR means you're always learning about people, communication, and the kind of leadership that drives results.
“The biggest lesson I’ve learned is how powerful transparency is,” said Joy. “People don’t expect perfection. They expect honesty, transparency, and empathy.”
Jenn added, “I’ve seen how our leaders focus on improving work while still prioritizing their teams. That balance sets a strong example.”
💬 If You’re New to gWorks...
We asked both Joy and Jenn what they’d tell someone starting their first day at gWorks.
Joy said: “This is a place where the work you do matters. You’ll see your impact, not just inside the company, but out in the communities we serve. And because we’re constantly growing, you’ll never stop learning.”
Jenn shared, “This is a supportive and positive workplace where people work hard, but also make room for fun. Teamwork and encouragement are just part of the culture here.”
🎉 Why HR Day Matters
“I haven’t really celebrated HR Day before,” said Jenn, “but I see it as a chance to recognize the impact HR has on employees and the company as a whole.”
For Joy, it’s a moment to reflect on her journey: “It reminds me why I said yes to all those early projects in my career. I believe people are the real driver of success.”
💚 Final Thought
To the HR professionals of gWorks, and across the country, thank you for the heart, hustle, and humanity you bring to your work. You remind us that strong teams don’t happen by accident. They happen because someone is behind the scenes making sure people feel seen, supported, and empowered to do their best work.

Happy Human Resources Professional Day!
