The Heart of City Hall: A Tribute to Clerks

Matt Limback - A Life of Service

The town of Corder, Missouri is a unique gem; it is a small town, with a very active community. Annually the town puts on a large rodeo, a summer festival, a chili potluck fundraiser, and many other activities. Corder is known for having well-kept facilities, such as its city park and library, that are often used by neighboring communities. Matt Limback, a 5th generation resident, now city clerk, has played a large role in this community and his passion for the town is undeniable and inspiring. “I did not realize how crucial the role of City Clerk is for a local government until I became one.” says Matt. He added; “No one goes into government work for the pay, it is only for the desire to impact our community.’

“When working with the public, often their frustrations are projected onto you, and you have to be able to recognize that and be the voice of calm and reason in the situation,” Matt explained. He believes that much of his success as a clerk is due to his time working at summer camps; it helped him learn to “be both the logistical and the fun coordinator”. Matt has noticed that because there isn’t a lot of visible work in the community, that many locals perceive that the government essentially runs itself, this however could not be further from the truth. Without someone managing it, the local government would cease to function. Matt believes that it is important to “remember that we are people too who are just trying to do our best to serve our community.”

Matt explained that it can be difficult for a small town, due to limited resources, to provide the community with proper support. This is made easier by the introduction of various technologies, allowing him to be more accessible to the public. Corder is using gWorks Cloud Solution, made specifically for small towns to help connect with residents and improve local government operations. Matt says he enjoys it most because, “The cloud-based software means that I can safely and securely navigate and manage the business of the city from anywhere.” With the software being a newer product, Matt acknowledged initially needing to work through a few things, but overall “I am very satisfied with the cloud based software. I look forward to continued improvements to make my life even easier. gWorks aims to constantly improve our products and services.”

Matt Limback is proof that small-town clerks wear many hats: coordinator, communicator, caretaker of the community’s trust. His calm presence, commitment to service, and embrace of technology ensure that Corder remains not just functional, but thriving. At the heart of every well-run town is a dedicated clerk like Matt, quietly doing the work that keeps everything moving forward.
